The staff were honestly the nicest team I have ever came across in a hotel. I used to work in different hotel chains for many years and can honestly say each one of the team were so lovely and positive. I know how tough working in hospitality is, and everyone we interacted with seemed like they genuinely liked their job and wanted to be there. The food was lovely, we had afternoon tea, dinner and breakfast and it was all lovely. The room was a little tired, I previously trained in the hotel when it was a Macdonald, so understand it's needing a bit of a refurb, but it was very spacious and had everything we needed. The staff really made the stay truly wonderful.

Welcome at reception wasn’t the best no info or anything just given room key. Room itself looked the part although wasn’t nice on the eye the fly catcher with lots of dead flies inside. The bathroom was ridiculous, bath was filthy hairs and grime, the silicone was mouldy and cracked, we opted for showers instead of a relaxing bubble bath as planned. The bathroom ended up flooded with water as the shower screen seal wasn’t doing its job. After breakfast the bathroom has a strong smell of urine from the drains. Breakfast welcome was lovely, staff weee friendly and helpful. Food was excellent although the sausages weee cold.

I stayed along with 2 other couples and have to say that whilst Some of the decor was old fashioned the rooms were big and comfortable. The food we had on our first night was of high quality and tasty. All 6 of us agreed that the attitude and friendliness of the staff was first class. We were also grateful that we could book in at 12 midday with no fuss

Great hotel, good hot buffet breakfast, tea was a bit of a faff with urn and flask for , staff were efficient and friendly, housekeepers were excellent, twin beds were comfy and pillows were amazing, pool was good, down side was the lack of Wi-Fi, cutting out or non existent so only a 9 for service

Fantastic. Service was brilliant and checked in really easily. Room was really nice and very spacious. Bed was really comfy but pillows a bit too big for me. Breakfast very nice and enjoyed a swim and sauna. Pool a bit cold but a great hangover cure.

On arrival, the reception staff and porters were very welcoming and one of the porters in particular helped us with local knowledge. The room was spacious with a very comfortable bed and the shower cubicle was easily accessible with a fantastic shower. Just a few minor negatives which didn't spoil our stay:- The towel rail was significantly dusty at the bottom only noticed this when trying to find it's switch. There was rubbish stuffed down the sofa but could be seen. The wardrobe was off the rails a bit so wouldn't stay open. All things considered, we had a lovely stay and would stay again.

The hotel is in a nice location, I'd never been to this side of Edinburgh before, it was very straightforward to find following Google maps and ideally situated for the tour bus. I arrived at hotel and the two gentlemen on concierge were extremely helpful and friendly. David took the keys to my car and parked it in the underground car park, the other gentleman came and helped with luggage. The lady who dealt with checking in was also very helpful and friendly explained everything clearly. David the concierge gentleman was particularly extra helpful in remembering we spoke the evening before on the telephone in regards to discounted tickets and showed me how to get them via the QR code and password, he also went out of his way to allow me back to the car to get something I had forgotten. The hotel itself was lovely, looked special and quite grand, the room was furnished and decorated in a luxurious taste, the bed was very comfortable and I had a fantastic sleep. The facilities I saw, which looked kitted out really well, included a gym, swimming pool, steam room, nail bar and spa. Dinner was restricted to a choice of only 3 options for each the starter, main course and pudding (using a Groupon voucher) which tbh was a bit of a let down as they weren't really appetising or inviting, however the food itself did taste lovely and there was an a la carte menu to choose from, but I thought was quite pricey with £18 for a burger. Again, every member of staff in the dining area was extremely helpful, very friendly and polite. The breakfast in the morning with ample choice, including haggis instead of black pudding for a wee change, very satisfying to set you up for the day. Again, when leaving, the same people on reception and concierge were as helpful and friendly om departure as they were on arrival, nothing was a problem for them and we were able to leave our bags at the concierge area safely and pick up later on in the day, when David, again was extremely helpful and brought the car round when leaving. All in all, I would thoroughly recommend the Holyrood Hotel, everything about it, and will hopefully get the opportunity to visit again.

This was by far the best hotel I’ve stayed in for a very long time. Centrally located, wonderful polite friendly staff and the biggest, most comfortable bed I’ve slept in in years. Extremely clean too. The restaurant and bar were outstanding. Fantastic food and a wide selection of beers. Would definitely recommend to anyone!

Absolutely great stay, staff were great always polite and ready on hand to help or answer any queries the concierge was particularly nice and very helpful, rooms were very lovely and food was delicious. Amazing value for money. Couldn’t fault it. Hotel perfectly situated for exploring edinburgh.

First night air condition or wee heater in my room was not working upgraded to level 5 next night thanksnto wonderful receptionist with blonde hair could not be more helpful considering my hisband had a disability but other than that would say 2nd noght was better and breakfast could not fault it

The cleanliness of this hotel was shocking. Stained bedding. Room had not been hoovered or dusted. Broken furniture. Shower was very poor and hairs in the bath. The mattress was clearly old as both the singles that were pushed together were indented basically in the middles of usage. The walls were covered in marks of liquids and food etc and also paint chips . Furniture broken and heavily marked and scored. The buffet breakfast was cold, bland and made up from the cheapest of food quality. The standard of the room was not 4 stars. Iv stayed in plenty 3 and 4 stars over the years in Edinburgh and the standard of this hotel is up there in the top 3 of the worst. Rooms, fur iture and ensuites are all in desperate need of a refurb or upgrade. The staff were nice, professional and well manner but that's probably the only good point about our stay. I also have photos that I have taking of the cleanliness etc and left a review on TripAdvisor including some of these photos.

My daughter and I had a fantastic stay at the Holyrood Hotel. The reception staff were welcoming, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We are in the restaurant, the staff were very professional, friendly and very accommodating to my daughters allergies. Food was amazing. Our room was beautiful and beds really comfortable. Breakfast was all you could eat with an added menu for different options for eggs which was a nice added extra. We used the leisure facilities which were nice and clean, very quiet and relaxing.

Nice hotel in a good location for old town attractions. The service was exceptional and staff could not be more helpful. The room we had was lovely with all the comforts expected. We couldnt get the tv to work but this was quickly rectified by sraff. The only small fault we can give was that two small ceiling panels were missing in corridor just above entrance to our room door where some maintenance work must have been getting done. Not a big issue but it was still like that the day we checked out. Leisure facilities were good and not to busy. We had a great time and will definitely return to this Hotel

Great rooms comfortable beds. Lovely spa and pool area. Everything very clean. only disappointment was the breakfast. Full Scottish with plenty of choice but lukewarm and served on cold plates - so food cold by half way through. Even the tea was lukewarm as the was in flasks. For a 4 star hotel I would have expected better. Everything else was first class.

Would not stay again rooms were cold had to get a electric fire to heat room it was a complaint of a few people that we spoke to paying the price we paid I was expecting table service for breakfast not buffet and hot flasks to make your own tea and toast your own toast also had heater in Resturant and reception we came to the idea heating was switched not very happy customer

We arrived early for the 3pm check-in The foyer was decorated beautifully and very welcoming. We were greeted with a lovely, smiling receptionist who was very accommodating and allocated us our room straight away. Our double room was large and very well laid out with a seating area, we loved it. We didn't have dinner in the hotel as we had a pre - theatre booking elsewhere but the menu looked lovely. The breakfast buffet was extensive with both continental and hot breakfast items with a choice of eggs. The staff were very pleasant and attentive. This is our second stay at the" Holyrood Hotel" but it certainly won't be our last. Would highly recommend the hotel if you're visiting to Edinburgh.
