This hotel is in the prime location to be an absolute gold mine..... unfortunately some aspects let it down. Rooms very clean but a little dated. Restaurant a big let down ... food ok when you get it, but expect an exceptionally long wait and listening to staff complain about their work situation. They seem to forget that customers are there. I suppose for a night this might be ok, but when you experience the same level of service on more than one night ... the hotel needs a retraining programme.

The bed was comfortable and plenty of pressure from the shower. We enjoyed the dinner although we had to wait more than an hour from when we ordered - the waitress was very apologetic and we weren't too bothered about it. Breakfast was delicious. All in all, a good experience in a comfortable hotel in the centre of town, with very friendly staff.

Hotel itself very nice. Had evening meal included in price of stay. Was a problem and they tried to charge me for food. Staff at evening meal seemed very stressed as the restaurant was very busy. Was a new starter on and she didn’t no anything so had to go away and come back with the info we needed. Breakfast was fab and service was great. Reception staff were fab very friendly.

Staff were all friendly and helpful, had dinner on 1st night which was not good my chicken supreme came with a gravy that tasted of ale and my friend’s half chicken was overdone....breakfast was better and soup at lunch was very nice. To all hotels that are refurbishing, please install walk in showers. I would stay here again.

A very enjoyable break. The hotel was excellent, very clean, very comfortable room and excellent food, both breakfast and dinner. Staff friendly, courteous and most professional at all times, nothing too much trouble for them. We wil certainly visit again and recommend to friends.

After reading the reviews for this hotel I was slightly apprehensive before my stay, however I was proved very wrong, the hotel itself is in an ideal location, staff are extremely welcoming and helpful and the food delicious, Some of hotel could do with a wee touch up, however this is work in progress as signs about the place advised. Cannot fault this hotel and look forward to staying here again.

Hi, we wanted to go to Carlisle as it wasn't too far from home. This was the only hotel that we could use the voucher husband got at xmas so we went ahead and booked. Was horrified when I looked at the reviews on TripAdvisor and paid extra for an Executive room. This room was Just OK. First automatic reaction when going into the bathroom was to look at the ceiling for the mould. However this had been well painted over as had the 2 windows which were wide open when we arrived and once closed we couldn't open them again. They should have been replaced years ago. This hotel is classified as 4 star. We had stayed the previous night in the 4 star Grand Central in Glasgow and there is absolutely NO comparison. Room was basically clean and bed very comfy. Lovely thick fluffy towels in the bathroom and heated towel rail which you couldn't turn off. This meant the room was very hot and stuffy during the night. We decided before we went to add another night and booked via Booking.Com. This cost £196??? DB&B. Grand Central cost £106 for B&B for a good basic standard room. Food and menu we felt was poor. Initial smell of dampness when entering hotel was off putting. Possibly why the heating was on constantly in the bathroom.

hotel is very central and the staff are lovely. easy to get to from the motorway parking round the back with no issues. very comfy bed. room was a good size. check in was fast and they offered free cookies as a welcome. unfortunately the bad points... the room we were allocated 206, bathroom is in a bad need of renovation. the room was right at the back of the building and across from a very busy night club and the music blared. this room was roasting and although the hotel did supply a fan it didn't do much good. food wasn't too great - starters cold and the fish was served with the skin on the back. would defo stay again but would make sure I was in a decent room and wouldn't chose to eat here again.

We stayed at the hotel to be close to the train station and the location was perfect. We were welcomed at reception by 2 lovely girls and they directed us to the small car park, in fact we got the last space. Our room was on the third floor and when we opened the door there was a very musty smell. We immediately opened the windows and this helped. The room had a great view but was very small. It would be better as a sitting room so you can enjoy the views. The bathroom was extremely small and very old fashioned. In fact I would say it was a disgrace in a hotel that claims to be 4 star. We had dinner as part of our package and the food was good. The service was also very good and Samantha looked after us very well. However the dining room is in need of a makeover and had absolutely no atmosphere. Breakfast on day 1 was very disappointing as the hot food could only be described as luke warm. The hotel badly needs a lot of money on it to bring it up to standard. It's such a pity as you have a fabulous team who are very enthusiastic but unfortunately are let down by the surroundings.

We picked this hotel as we wanted to be near the train station as we were doing the brian Coast rail trip. This hotel ticked all the boxes and was a very good price. We were welcomed at reception and the girls were lovely. Directed us to the small hotel car park, which only takes 26 cars and we got the last space. We went to our room and when we opened the door there was a very musty smell and immediately opened the windows. There was a bit of noise but you have to expect that in the city centre. The room had a double aspect view which was lovely but it was very small, however very clean. The bathroom was like something out of a caravan, tiny and very much in need of a facelift. My husband has recently had a hip replacement and getting in and out the shower was a bit of a challenge. Food at dinner is very good and again the staff are great, in particular Samantha who looked after us. However, there was no atmosphere and again the restaurant is badly in need of a facelift. Breakfast on day one was very disappointing. It is buffet style, but all the cooked food was cold. Again a bit of money needs to be spent to upgrade the equipment. It was such a pity as the staff were great and obviously well trained and motivated but the interior really lets this hotel down. I can not work out how it is classed as 4 star, 3 on a good day but realistically it's closer to 2. Hallmark need to spend some serious money on this hotel and then they would be on to a winner. I really think you need to review your rating for this hotel. We regularly stay in The Crown Hotel in Weatheral which you also rate as 4 star and there is no comparison.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel, our room was lovely, very clean and a good size. The hotel was very nice and welcoming, they even had small pieces of choc ge brownie on offer at reception which was a nice touch. Our evening meal was delicious and the staff were brilliant to us and for us. We asked for extra towels and were given them immediately. We were a bit disappointed with how small the bathroom was but that would be our only negative comment.

Hi the hotel was nice etc. Only problem was it says we to get dinner on first night. But when we went down for it .the waitress said we only had £23 to spend off menu. For dinner. So we had to pick certain items as was only allowed to pick .main course was on average £13.00 per main dish. .We also never got our bottle of wine. With dinner or in our room. Apart from that all was ok.

Very good hotel in all aspects. Very good for arriving by train with station adjacent to the hotel. Despite being next to the railway station and right next door to a busy sports hotel in the middle of the city, there was very little noise heard at all. Great location for accessing the Castle, Cathedral and right beside the Citadel. Staf very good right fromreception through to restaurant and bar.Food great and good selection. Will recommend to any one of any age.

Only complaint was the room we were given was right above a nightclub. However when we approached the staff we were moved straight away to another room with no hassle whatsoever. I would like to add how pleasant and helpful all the staff were at the hotel and would have no hesitation to return to the hotel.

Our stay last weekend was good. I would complain about the following: 1. The heat in the hotel rooms is atrocious! We tried turning down the heating in the room but the did not seem to work. 2. The food we are on the first night was beautiful. Breakfast however, was a completely different matter. On Saay my husband and myself went for breakfast around 9am. The food was stone cold (well may a little heat but none as you would notice). I asked for my breakfast to be heated up in the microwave but came back just the same. When my husband's brother and his wife came down around half an hour later, the plates that had been put out were soo hot that you had to have at least 6 napkins to hold them ((note- this does not make the food any warmer). I believe that the plates were that hot that one lady dropped hers as her fingers were getting burnt. On Sunday, whilst again the plates were that hot that you needed napkins to attempt any lifting, the food was still the same - COLD! Suggestion: the scrambled egg, fried eggs and beans were hot as they were kept in heated/lidded hotplates. If you had placed all the food available in separate hotplates with lids, then there would not have been a problem and the food would have been warm. Also, the staff that were on seemed to be run off their feet (no fault of their own). A little extra help on these busy dates would not go amiss.

Stayed here a couple of years ago. Enjoyed it, so came back again. Unfortunately, it seems to have gone a bit downhill since last time. Room was rather grotty, especially the bathroom. Silverfish running around the bathroom floor, black mould in the tile grout. Had to pinch a toilet roll of the maid's trolley. Restaurant was particularly poor, especially the customer service. Food disappointing. Fish and Chips with frozen chips, no thanks. Chicken dish extremely dry. Being chased by the 'man in charge' (not 'manager', as these are supposed to be able to manage) asking had I signed the correct bill.
