We last visited this hotel in Nov 1994, and that was 26 years ago...yet - despite staying regularly in 4 star hotels - we have never forgotten the way it charmed us
So it was great to come back.
Yes, by current hotel standards it is not luxurious. But what it has going for it is its wonderful quirkiness - how often does one stay in a hotel that during the second world war was requisitioned as a prisoner of war camp for senior Luftwaffe and German Naval Officers...??!! - and a genuinely friendly staff, who are a million miles from the obsequious "have a nice day" phoniness to be found in some of their competitor hotels.
Particularly impressed with Steve Gibbins who learning that I have been singing the praises of their stunning porridge for 26 years, and finding all other hotel porridge to be found wanting by comparison, kindly arranged for it to be put back on the menu for me (it having been temporarily removed due to Covid-19 restrictions), and with James Leven, who detecting my Welsh accent, greeted me every meal in the "Language of Heaven".
Also loved the very pleasant mature lady waitress who said she was working there when my wife and I stayed in 1994 with a Wallace Arnold coach party.
I recommend this idiosyncratic hotel to anyone not über fussy who likes real CHARACTER.

Stayed during covid restrictions and all safety measures were in place.
Location superb, two minutes my minute walk to the beach and ten minute walk to town. Very close for visit to Arbroath and Broughty Ferry. Sea view from our room which was large with comfortable bed. Bedroom and bathroom tastefully decorated and very clean. We were served a full English breakfast with the option of cereal etc served to the table.
Great value two night bed and breakfast deal.

We have booked through yourselves on numerous occasions, but with current restrictions both at home and in Scotland we feel we would not benefit from this break. Having spoken to the hotel direct the only things open are the cafe and shop. We so wanted to visit the visitors centre and relax in the leisure centre but with neither available we needed to cancel this time. Please accept our Apologise and hope to re book soon when things relax a little.

I have found My hotel break to be the most reliable site both for booking and for dealing with any difficulties. I have had to cancel on occasions in the past mainly due to unexpected hospital appointments arriving and have never encountered any difficulty. I have also found the hotels they recommend to be of good value. The staff all seem to be well experienced and caring. I feel the give a very personal service.

Very easy to book

Have booked a number of breaks without any problems. However, most recent booking was cancelled due to hotel delaying opening until after our planned stay. Thanks to Susan for resolving the situation by getting us rebooked on the same package at a later date.
