Stayed here last year for the Hogmanay break. The staff are all very friendly and found the food to very nice and tasty. The party nights were not bad and we also had nibbles and champagne at the bells. Overall it was a welcomed few days away ?.

As first timers to Dunoon & admittedly not having read the email about the hotel correctly the Esplanade hotel was most definitely not for us. The original room we were booked into, we were unable to even view. Although it had a lift to the first floor there were then 3 stairs up and a further 10 stairs down to access the room which my husband was unable to negotiate. We were then offered a twin room on 2nd floor but I found this to be unsuitable. We finally were given a double sea view room which was ok but most certainly not a premium room. There was a large burn on the carpet beside the seating area, the veneer on the table was partially stripped off, there were numerous cup marks on the dresser where tea facilities were & 1 of the curtains at the window had a few hooks missing. The dining room again was accessed by stairs down to it but We were then told the evening meal would be at their sister hotel half a mile along the road as the chef had called in sick but it would be ok for breakfast the following morning! This was the final straw for me. We did stay overnight but left before breakfast the following morning.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback following your recent stay at the Esplanade Hotel in Dunoon. We value all guest comments, as they help us to continually review and improve the service we provide. we are sorry to hear that aspects of your stay did not meet your expectations. As stated in all booking confirmations, including those via third-party platforms such as MyHotelBreaks, we do highlight that there are mandatory steps throughout the property to access various areas. we regret that this was not noticed prior to your arrival. We also did not receive any request for an easy-access room, nor were we advised of any mobility concerns ahead of your stay. Despite being heavily booked, our team did their utmost to rearrange room allocafions to accommodate your needs, and we appreciate your flexibility in accepting an alternative room. Regarding the cosmetic issue with the carpet, we acknowledge the mark you mentioned, which was the result of a recent incident. our housekeeping team did their best to clean it promptly, though full replacement was not immediately possible due to occupancy levels. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen staff sickness and pre-scheduled annual leave, we were unable to offer dinner service at the Esplanade on that particular evening. To minimise inconvenience, we offered guests the option of dining at our nearby sister hotel-less than a five-minute drive awayand provided complimentarytaxisto and from thevenue. we understand this may not have been ideal and apologise for the disruption. We were able to arrange for chefs from our sister property to provide breakfast service the following morning and were disappointed you chose not to stay and enjoy it. we regret that we did not have the opportunity to discuss your concerns in person during check-out. Our manager would have welcomed the chance to address them directly and explore how we might have improved your experience further. once again, we appreciate your feedback and thank you for sharing your thoughts.

Fab stay. Lovely sea view rooms. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Special shout out to Grace and to Lewis. Good fun both of them. Food was excellent on the Friday but dinner on Sat not so good and choice disappointing. Breakfast both mornings was really good. We will be back

Did not enjoy our stay , beds very uncomfortable. Had to go to another hotel in the group for evening meal . Both hotels very dated and sorely in need of refurbishment.

We had a sea view room so had a great view. Very good food and nice staff. Too many different stairs all over the hotel so not good for disabled people. Dining room chairs were awful, definitely need new ones.

We did enjoy our stay at the Esplanade hotel in Dunoon, it is in a beautiful location. However the hotel is tired and in need of some refurbishment . The lounges were cold and draughty, however our bedroom was warm and cosy, bed was comfortable and bathroom of a good standard although it seems not all guests were so lucky. The food was not bad, but was plain and poorly presented. The service was excellent Suzy and her team were welcoming, friendly and helpful. The entertainment was OK the Hogmanay party was enjoyable.

We had a 2 night stay with dinner bed and breakfast as we never stayed there before we were pleasantly surprised, we had a lovely room with sea view . The food was excellent and the staff could not have been more helpful . We will return.

Lovely hotel, rooms good, staff were amazing as was food. We booked through My Hotel Break.com and it stated "Entertainment". On arrival I asked about entertainment to be told there was nothing on, I would not have booked if I had known this. Seemingly, as I now know, entertainment is on Tuesday and Wednesday. Could not get BBC channels on TV. Special thanks to Laura and Raj for extremely excellent service and customer care skills.

Our booking was transferred to the Argyll Hotel as there is 9 steps to the dining room in the Esplanade Hotel and my wife's lack of mobility made the accommodation impractical. The Argyll Hotel was a little old fashioned but the service was excellent.

Nice base for a short stay in the area. Room had a nice view apart from the building site next door to the hotel. Parts of the hotel are quite dated. Staf very friendly and hard working. Dinner only served at 7pm and menu is basic and limited to 3 starters, 3 mains and 3 desserts. Hotel mainly caters for coach parties

For the second year, Suzy and her team gave us an excellent New Year (and Birthday!) break. Everything was absolutely fantastic. Stunning firework display too! Service, food, room and entertainment was second to none. Beautiful views from the hotel, with spectacular sunrise and sunsets. I cannot recommend this hotel enough!

This hotel does not look too good as you approach it but once inside it is lovely. We had booked a sea view room for New Year and it was lovely. Spacious, clean and comfortable. I thought the food was very good although my partner said the mac and cheese was terrible. The staff were super friendly and very helpful. We felt that breakfast was geared up to suit the coach party that were in. I mean really, who wants to get up for an 8am breakfast at New Year, or indeed, on any holiday. Hogmany entertainment was a good piper and dancer, but mainly a disco with what we could only describe as the worst dj in the world with a weird taste in music and a dreadful sound system. Not at all suitable for a predominantly over 60 age group. That was the low point of the weekend. A high point was Cambell, who I think was the handyman, put on a fabulous firework display. All in all a really enjoyable weekend (except for the dj) and we would certainly return to the Esplanade.

Hotel was quiet , we arrived got our room , went in and it was so small with view of car park, I asked if we could move room staff said they would see if any were ready, so we came back a few hour later and we were given a room with a view out to the seafront it was a brilliant view, food was good and prices were cheaper than some of the local bars, all in all a good hotel nothing fancy but worth the cost, all the staff were friendly and helpful so we had no complaints.

Just spent a lovely few days at this hotel with my husband. The staff were lovely, the room was clean & beds comfortable. The choice for breakfast was very good & tasty, although we only had dinner on one night in the hotel, it wasn’t because we were unhappy, we were just out & about. The night we had our meal it was very tasty, well presented & and very good portions. My hubby was a bit disappointed that the bar was shut when we came in one night at 10.15pm, he fancied a little shandy ?. Would definitely come back again, the garden & views are fabulous, although the paintwork could do with a fresh coat.

This hotel has a fantastic location, however there is need for some refurbishment, it’s starting to look tired , it would be an even better place with some money spent on it , but food is still top class , and staff are all nice .

The rooms we were first offered seemed small. I requested an upgrade and the staff Sandy and Sonia were very helpful. We got a triple sea view room, which was much bigger. We were also advised on arrival that the chef was on training on the Wednesday evening and we had to dine out in the sister Hotel, The Argyle. We had to pay for a return taxi, more expense. On the second night ody informed us that we had to yet again dine at the Argyle Hotel. I complained to the barman who quickly advised management. We got the taxi fare and 3 complimentary Prosecco drinks for the inconvenience. Although the staff were very helpful, the communication could have been better, The Hotel was empty both nights at the Esplanade

We felt that this hotel is geared towards coach parties, you had to be down for dinner at 7pm and down for breakfast at 8am, the perception given is this is to suit the coach parties. There is only one set menu for dinner, choice of 3 starters,4 mains,3 desserts and cheese and biscuits, at breakfast the bacon and sausage is deep fried not very appetising first thing in the morning. The food served at dinner was very tasty, this is why we scored it an 8, The staff are very good and could not do enough for us.
