Delighted with our stay at the Columba Hotel, Oban. Staff were very courteous, helpful and pleasant. Our room was very good and we were comfortable. Breakfast was very good and the Evening 3-course meal was excellent. We would return if the occasion arose. Overall Delighted with Our Stay!

I'd considered this hotel a couple of times. I knew the location which is excellent. Downside is lack of parking. There is a strip alongside the bldg., but only for about ten cars. A pay and display car park is right beside it, but if you're staying longer than our two nights, who wants to possibly pay every day. Our room was not too spacious, but at least had two chairs. Why some hotels only provide one when two people stay is beyond me. The en suite consisted of a shower cubicle and toilet, of which the seat needed tightening. It was very close to the always on heated towel rail and I nearly burned my leg twice when the seat slid sideways. The bed was very comfortable. Not a lot of storage space. Breakfast had less choice than other hotels. I like a bowl of mixed fruit to start, but one morning there was only a choice of prunes or gfruit. I don't like the former, and can't take the other because of the medication I'm on. The bacon on both mornings was thick and tough to cut, as were my partner's tattie scone. Unusual there was no haggis. Evening dinner was a different ball game. First night I had fish and chips, (£3 extra? Unheard of), she had sea bass. Both enjoyed. Second night she had sea bass again, I had Aberdeen Angus steak, cooked beautifully. We retired with a drink to the upstairs section of the bar, where a lovely view of the town frontage and harbour with the lights on could be had. The staff were all friendly and polite, and unlike some of the Highland hotels which can be a bit worn looking, the Columba was clean, fresh and tidy. I would certainly consider staying again

Enjoyed our stay, staff friendly and helpful, room ok could be doing with a bit of a refresh. Food was good and a good hearty breakfast to start the day. One big draw back is parking, there is over 200 rooms in hotel with only 8 parking places. There is a public carpark but it costs £1 and hour to use and you will probably struggle to get a space in it during the summer.

Lovely Victorian hotel, well positioned with great views, very clean, nice staff, good food especially the breakfast. The only downside is the very small lift you have to ooerate yourself. At our advanced age ( 76&80) we found the heavy doors difficult to close. We did enjoy our 2 day stay.

We had a lovely stay at the Columba hotel. We decided to upgrade our room to room 12 which gave us a corner view. Room was huge and very comfortable with brilliant views out to the sea. We enjoyed watching the ferries passing during the day. We ate at the hotel’s bar/restaurant and the fish we ordered was delicious. We would definitely come back.

We had a lovely corner room with 3 windows overlooking the Oban Bay - what a view! Only fault I had was the mattresses on two adjoined single beds, definitely need replaced & a tube hoover to clean the dust off the top of the curtains. Otherwise a lovely stay with friendly staff & excellent food. We would return!

Thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night DBB stay at the Columba Hotel, from 26th to the 28th March this year. We had room 201, sea view room (suite). We paid an extra £20 per night for seaview & it was worth it. Evening meals were good, breakfast was good, plenty choice, only complaint would be that on both mornings the bacon was a bit over cooked & dry. Would still recommend this hotel as rooms were clean, comfy & staff very pleasant. Location is very central but hotel parking limited, we got a free space just outside hotel and as we never used car, we had it for the entire stay, plenty parking close to hotel but not free. Lift is quant, old Victorian type, but added to the charm of the hotel.

Booking No 497687. We booked these two nights following on from the previous booking so had the same room 112 throughout our stay, the room remained rather chilly due in part to the pretty old, large single glazed windows and the position of the only heat source in the room being badly placed, i.e. not in the main part of the room. It actually felt warmer in the corridor!! There were a couple of niggles in the otherwise beautiful bathroom too, plug in basin not working properly as water escaped all the time and shaving light not working.(reported at the time) Having said all of that we did enjoy our first stay away for some time, however, though I have already mentioned the breakfast arrangements for me were OK as I could pick and choose what I wanted, it was not so easy with the evening meals, choices for me (Gluten Free) were quite limited and a longer stay would have been quite difficult as half the choices were pasta/pizza options. That said I would still go there again perhaps in warmer weather and we have no complaints about the helpfulness of staff, who were all very pleasant during our stay. MS

Booking No 497686. We arrived late afternoon and were given our room number which we made our way to and found a pleasant room with view overlooking the inner bay at Oban town centre. Everything looked good and we were happy to find a bottle of wine in the room as promised, however the room was rather cold so we switched on the heater, then popped out for a wander around town and went for a meal at a nearby restaurant as we were not booked in for dinner that night. When we returned the room was still pretty cool and it did not warm up much more in the course of the evening. Breakfast was fine for me as a Coeliac as I was able to make my own choices, and we found all of the staff pleasant helpful and friendly without exception.

A lovely old hotel. Very disappointed with the buffet breakfast. Most of the items were cold. No eggs left and were not replaced. The hotel fire alarm went off at 2.20 and 2.45. We were up and dressed, it was a false alarm but we had to phone reception to find out. They should have phone every room that had guests. Sadly, we won't be returning.
