Hotel in good location, close to castle and town. Big car park and free .Arrived early to use facilities. No problem. Staff very friendly. Went back later to book in, again quick and easy. Went to room and was shocked to have to step over big pile of dirty linen one side and ice bucket,empty bottles and glasses the other. Every time we walked down corridor there was dirty crockery and empty bottles left outside doors, even left overnight. Very disappointed with room, quite dark, lamps not working, window catch broken so wouldnt close, taps were running. Only way to shut room door was to slam it. Room not particularly clean. Phoned reception and they said they would send someone to have a look. 10 minutes later they phoned to say we could move rooms. We moved to new room ,was better but still not very clean. Dust on all surfaces. Actually found a receipt on floor dated December. Leisure facilities good, but changing room and toilets again dated and not very clean, had to report that 2 loos were blocked.. Evening meal and breakfast both good. All the staff were really friendly and helpful . Enjoyed our time away but hotel didn't live up to its reputation. No question asked when we booked out if everything was ok and had we enjoyed our stay .

Lovely stay with very good food and service. Used this hotel many times and always enjoyed our stay, bathrooms could do with a bit upgrading and deep clean but everything else excellent.

Tired hotel. Evening meal was lovely. Breakfast had hardly anything left for the continental. Paid for an upgrade and the room was tired. No for shower. Blood on one of the pillow cases Staff were nice and rushed off their feet with covid

Great weekend had by all celebrating my sons 30th birthday which was in July but took us till September to get away. I had emailed in advance to get a room near to the lift as my husband is oxygen dependant which we got no problem. We had evening meals on both nights and breakfast both mornings. The food was excellent both at night and in the morning. The only thing I could complain about over the whole weekend was that the coffee for breakfast was a bit bland. That wouldn't stop me from going back though

The location of the hotel was great. It was central for everything and we had no trouble with parking. The room was spacious and overlooked the courtyard. We enjoyed our dinner both evenings and they included 3 courses with the DBB offer. The only thing I didn’t like was that the breakfast was completely buffet style and at this time I didn’t think it was safe due to Covid with so many people queuing and using the same utensils.

We had a lovely 3 nights stay in this very centrally located hotel and would definitely return. Every single member of staff that we came across was so helpful and friendly, and couldn’t do enough for the guests. We have seldom come across a nicer bunch of people in any hotel we have ever stayed in and they deserve recognition for this. The main building is beautiful and, yes the annexe where the bedrooms are could be doing with a refresh, but our room was clean and had everything we needed. There is no maid service during the current restrictions but we saw the maids each morning in the corridor and just asked for clean towels. They were always very obliging and it was never any trouble to them. Additional toiletries are available in the reception for guests to help themselves and this was really convenient. The restaurant food was first class and the helpings were very generous. There was a good selection of choices on the menu and we had something different to eat each night, and all were really tasty. Our only difficulty was with the really slow service in the bar area. We tried sitting outside one day in the lovely courtyard but waited so long to give our order, then receive our drinks that we decided not to go back. We tried sitting indoors in the bar another night but didn’t even get a drink that night as we got fed up waiting for someone to take our order. It just seemed as though there weren’t enough bar staff and they just had too much to do. It’s a pity as this is the only thing that let the place down and definitely lost them trade. I had a lovely treatment in the spa and it was very good value and, again, the member of staff was lovely and really friendly. We plan to return soon and look forward to seeing the hotel observatory in the roof next time if restrictions allow for it to open.

Lovely hotel. Staff were lovely. Food was really nice, and despite restaurant being very busy service was good. Room was great, only negative would be windows were very dirty. 9/10.

Another fantastic stay. Good food. Clean rooms. Friendly staff. Only complaint was too many dogs in the hotel with owners allowing them on to couches in the lounge bar. Not my cup of tea.
