We expected much more from a hotel of the Dunblane Hydro's reputation (and cost). Unfortunately our experience leads us to believe that its general management, reception and housekeeping functions are very much relying on that reputation; which will wither if its staff continue to treat its guests the way we were treated. We had booked a family room for ourselves and our young daughter. Following our arrival, despite making 5 (yes 5!) requests of staff over a period of 5 hours, to have the sofa bed made up, or even to have bed linen and pillows delivered to the room; this still had not been done by 1015pm. Eventually we tracked down, in person, a member of staff who claimed to be the duty manager. He then took the necessary action in relation to the sofa bed. No apology, just an acceptance that the standard of service was poor. Our requests all involved visits to hotel reception, as calls on the hotel's telephone system to reception all went unanswered. Repeatedly being told that staff were attending right away, when that was obviously not the case, erodes credibility. On leaving our room at various times during our 3 day stay we were aware of empty and dirty glasses, dirty plates and cutlery lying around hallways and common stairways for some time. In one instance for in excess of 12 hours. There appeared to be a distinct lack of staff attending to room cleaning duties, and on one day our room was left untouched by cleaners, with towels etc not replaced. Our room was well appointed and could not itself be criticised (apart from there being no hairdryer). Food was good, and the majority of staff employed within the hotel restaurant were attentive and professional, some not (especially breakfast staff). We are not part of the, "hard to please brigade", and overheard countless others voicing their disappointment with the service they had received when checking out over that weekend.

Staff very pleasant and helpful. Had a great stay. One downside was that 'bubble pool' was not working and there were no notices to advise of this and staff were unable to advise when this would repaired. Like many hotels, dogs are allowed in public areas (except restaurant) although unlike other hotels they appeared to be allowed on any floor. This is not good for people who have allergies. Would be best if there was a seating area where no animals were allowed.

We were made very welcome at the reception deck and were told that we would be getting a Kings size room. Unfortunately this was not the case. The room was clean and tidy but the beds were two singles placed together, not what we expected. The service at the cocktail bar and at the restaurant were excellect and I would recommend staying there again. Thanks Peter

Overall the hotel was excellent and lived up to the Hilton standard. Our only criticism was with the steaks we ordered at dinner. Billed as "Campbells Gold" and recommended by Nick Nairn they were very poor quality - tough & stringy. We asked the waitress (who was most apologetic) to pass our complaint to the chef but he obviously wasn't interested. If this is "Gold Standard" I would suggest they change their supplier and no way would Nick Nairn accept this quality. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay very much.

Lift was out of action and we were not advised at check in. Empty glasses and bottles were left in the corridor. Service at dinner was not very good and food was rather bland.

Excellent experience with friends at Dunblane. Food excellent staff were very professional and courteous couldn`t do enough for us right from arriving at reception through to dinner in evening. We arrived when Hotel was full, were worried how they would cope as it was a bank holiday weekend. We were pleasantly surprised how effortless they catered for everyone. Leisure centre also very well organised. Definitely would return and recommend a visit.

This a nice hotel, room was very good views over Dunblane but the bed was really uncomfortable you could feel all the spring coming through also it sloped out wards so I felt I was constantly trying to climb back into middle, I had a very sore back and neck the next day went to reception and they said the hotel was full but hey would try to get us another room, they were helpful but we came back to reception at 15:00 they didn't have another room at that time so we decided just to come home. The man was very apologetic gave us

When we arrived at our room there was 2 dirty wine glasses and a cup outside the door, which lay there until the following day. Our room didn't feel very clean and we received no room cleaning service or change of towels.

The bedrooms were ample sized beautifully decorated and well equipped. The curtains didn't fit the windows. Blackout blinds would have helped greatly as daylight wakened us way too early in the morning. Also double glazing would have helped keep the sound of the magpies and seagulls to a minimum. The restaurant was fabulous and the staff were courteous and attentive. The staff on give front desk and their manager were also very helpful. All in all we enjoyed our stay.

Best available room not transparent, since they do not tell you whether or not you have been allocated an upgrade at check in.

It appears that you don't always get the best available room on check in as the confirmation email states. At check-in we asked if it was possible to have a room in the main building and we were told that we would have to pay for an upgrade for a double - that there were only twins available. I told the receptionist what was written in the confirmation email that we were meant to be allocated the best available room but that an upgrade was not guaranteed. She went away and then came back and then we were given a very nice double room in the old building. I was glad that I had asked. So my thanks to the hotel! We went swimming on the Sunday evening and to be honest the changing rooms were not the tidiest or the cleanest. I appreciate it was towards the end of the day about 6PM but we were't expecting towels on the floor, over the benches and a not so clean floor. Other guests were talking about it in the changing rooms when I entered. Perhaps just a few extra checks throughout the day is required. We ate in the restaurant and as with previous visits the food was lovely. Our visit was to celebrate our wedding anniversary and we certainly enjoyed it. Dinner was followed by some cocktails in the bar. We enjoyed our visit. Thanks again.
