Stayed 2 nights, 19th & 20th October 2012. The hotel had a nice feel about it, staff all very pleasant. We only had the bar food of an evening but enjoyed it. Room was basic but very comfortable, grounds lovely. Had a nice relaxing stay and would go again.

When we arrived they did'nt have our booking but it all got sorted. They have just been taken over recently and are no longer De Vere but within one day you could see changes taking place for the better. Overall another great few days at Barony Castle they want to become four star so hopfully prices don't shoot up.

I loved this hotel! Reception staff very friendly and helpful. Our room was very nice, quite small but everything we need and a nice comfy bed. The food was fantastic! Breakfast offered a large buffet and dinner menu had a great choice and the meals were very good. Loved that there was a swimming pool and we were able to hire bikes for free to cycle around the hotel grounds.

We stayed for three nights with our dog. The rooms are quite small for pets but beautifully clean with good amenities. Being the school holiday week the hotel was at full capacity but the staff cold not have been more helpful. Thoroughly enjoyed our food and the grounds are really lovely. Nice, warm swimming pool - could benefit from more than one shower. We felt that the concervatory area would benefit from comfier seats but, on the whole, we will definitely be back. Excellent value for the price.

We stayed twice at this charming Castle Hotel last year. The first time in May and the second time end of July 2011 - when we had fantastic weather. We would not hesitate to recommend Barony Castle. Great place to stay, excellent food, friendly staff, large grounds to walk around, plenty to see and do in the Borders. Although we do not stay very far away from Barony Castle it was great to stay a couple of nights there again on our way home from England.

We had a fantastic stay, staff were very helpful, breakfast was great, we had a meal in the bar which was very good and our evening meal was wonderful. The room had everything needed and when I realised I had forgotten my toothbrush, one was provided free of charge. We will be back!

i was absolutely delighted with the hotel and facilities. Service was slow both nights of our stay. food in general was very good but one member of the party who had the sea bass on the second night did not enjoy the mealas it was cold and the sauce did not go with the fish. i was disappointed the menue was the same for both nights, overall we all had a good time

Booked a last minute family break - mum, dad, 11 and 9 year old, and gran on the 2 nights DBB and free 3rd night BB - this was by far the best price available at the time, and we were not disappointed. Having stayed at Hiltons and Hydros before, this place is as good as, if not better - great value for money, the hotel and surroundings are stunning, decor of public areas lovely - cosy and comfortable. Kids and dad were in the pool each day, sauna and jacuzzi also available, as was a gym with rowers, treadmills, exercise bikes .... Staff all extremely nice and helpful. Food lovely - both breakfast and dinner - yes the menu was the same on each night however there are 5/6 choices for each course, so plenty to choose from to have an alternative dish each evening. The menu also clearly states if you fancy something different then just ask them 24 hours in advance and they will do their best to accommodate. As there were 4 of us for a family room I had not realised that I should have asked for an extra bed (all rooms in corridor we were in had a double and single bed), but as soon as I asked reception this was all sorted out immediately. There was a wedding on the Saturday night and yes we could hear the music as we were directly above, but this stopped at 1145 and did not cause us any issues - no complaints whatsoever about any aspect of the hotel - only compliments!

Individually the staff were well mannered and very helpful, unfortunately they lacked an overall sense of direction especially in the dining room. The room we stayed in was OK,not a brilliant view unless you craned your neck, handle missing from one of the drawers and the toilet roll holder was only just hanging on. Also, the noise of the disco from the wedding that was being held there on the Saturday night was very obtrusive and ensured that we did not get to sleep before midnight when mercifully it stopped. That is all the bad things out of the way and now for the more upbeat appraisal. The asthetics of the building and the grounds are astounding, secure space for bikes to be stored, free use of bikes within the substantial grounds. Lovely pool and small sauna were good for the children and Dad. Things are changing at this hotel so there is a period of transition and, even with the sincerity at great attitude of staff to overcoming some of the problems, what will make or break this lovely hotel is the time they take to complete their transition. I still had one of my best birthdays in many a year. Easy access to the fabulous mountain biking facilities at Glentress and Innerliething.

Had a great weakend staff were very friendly and helpfull.Food was to die for. Room has everything you need and clean. But there were two weddings on at the weekend and we were in room 114 we could dance to the music this did not bother us young 50+ ladies Might be an idea to keep these rooms for wedding guests. But overall we had a fab stay and would recommend it to our friends.

We'd recommend this hotel and the local area. Staff all very pleasant. How to make it even better? The silicone and grout in the showers in the bedroom and the pool changing could do with a bit more attention. Also trying to be eco-friendly is great so if I don't put my towels in the bath it does mean I am happy to use them again another day. New shampoo and shower gel also unneccessary on a second day when only used a small fraction of the bottles and clearly enough left to last another day.

I recently booked an overnight break and was delighted upon arrival to be advised we had been upgraded to the Eddlestone Suite which was a fab treat. We found the hotel lovely and in a beautiful location. The food was faultless and the staff were very helpful - all of which made our stay very special. A perfect hotel in a beautiful location.

I stayed at barony castle with my husband for our 1st anniversary, we were very disappointed. First there was a wedding taking place which made us feel in the way, we could not explore the hotel or make use of the facility's. I did book online, but I also phoned hotel but was never notified of this. The other thing I was really disappointed with was the rooms, we were on the top(3rd) floor, but I'm sure they get used as work quarters or something as my husband works away a lot and says he can get nicer rooms for

We were very disappointed with the standard of the bedroom but the service and the food in particular were very good. The General Manager has offered to compensate us by way of a nights B&B with a bottle of Champagne
