Nice hotel. Food was lovely. Only problem was restaurant seemed short staffed. We finished starter and had to ask for my son starter as it didn’t arrive. Breakfast- we arrived and the buffet was needing restocked, this didn’t happen for about 40mins. We waited almost an hour for our cooked breakfast. No towels in swimming pool when we arrived and no staff to provide these. Had to go to room to get towels. The floor round the Jacuzzi was dirty, think someone must have been in with muddy shoes.

The hotel is nice however, the staff are miserable and the service is poor. I felt from start to finish that my husband an I were an inconvenience from check in to check out the next day. We were left sitting whilst 4 other tables were served before us for breakfast, no apology given. I've left feeling very disappointed and would definitely not recommend this hotel to friends or family.

Review of stay on 30 July 2023 Very disappointing DBB break, will not be back again. We have had many stays here, always with excellent food and service, see my 5 star Tripadvisor review from 26 April 2017. This visit was extremely disappointing, and I spoke to head receptionist and emailed manager before checkout, was told he would contact me. I have held my review for a week and there has been no response. My email is below. “Dear Mr Stirrat We have stayed here for many years, looking forward to our meals in particular. This latest experience has been totally disappointing. Notes attached. I look forward to your comments. Meals at New Lanark: Dinner: Smoked Haddock Gratin extremely salty, too much mash, and lack of fresh seasonal vegetables; Melon starter - some fruits very hard; Items unavailable on menu: Burgers and some other items. Breakfast: Items unavailable: Salmon; Sauce for eggs Benedict and Florentine; Waffles; Vegetarian sausage; No jams available (waiter said would check basement); Juice glasses dirty; Cereal bowls removed as dirty; Toasters not working properly; Full Scottish had three tiny dry mushrooms, very small portion of haggis; Other customers received fried eggs instead of ordered poached eggs Waitress when we complained said you are transitioning with chefs! Reported to head receptionist, unable to deal with in absence of manager.” Sad that the hotel standards have fallen so much. The receptionist did process a £30 refund on departure, covered the £22.50 paid for a bottle of wine from the very poor wine list (4 white, 2 rose and 4 red). Felt particularly sorry for breakfast waitress, reciting the litany of what was not available to each arriving table. Really no excuse for so many failures. UPDATE: After 2 weeks and a formal complaint via Myhotelbreaks I have received an email from Mr Stirrat, with profuse apologies, but no real explanation except supplier and staff issues. Unfortunately too little, too late. We will not be back. Thanks to Myhotelbreaks for their assistance, will certainly continue to se their services

Hotel reply...

Dear Mr McLaughlin, I have been passed your complaint directed to Myhotelbreak following your stay at New Lanark on the 30th July. Firstly I am very sorry indeed that I did not respond to you at the time. I’d like you to understand that this was not intentional. Regrettably my workload recently has been intense due to a number of factors, and your email fell out of view in my inbox. I am very sorry indeed that you experienced shortcomings on this stay. Please be assured that I have taken on board your feedback and shared it with my team. We had a very difficult weekend at the time of your stay with a mixture of supply and staff issues. This as a consequence made us fail on our service delivery. You stayed in the past and had a very enjoyable time. It was not our intention to provide a lower level of service on this occasion. I could list all the factors that affected us but I am sure you will not be interested in hearing these. All I can say is that it’s not because we don’t care or that we have taken our eye off the ball. I genuinely am sorry you did not enjoy this visit and the reparation of £30 given at the time was not intended to insult you. I am asking for your kind understanding as to the situation we found ourselves in over the weekend of your stay, and ask instead that you focus on your previous stays as you know we normally provide a high level of service. Please class this recent visit as a blip. As I say, every member of my team is working hard on a daily basis to provide a high and consistent level of service and I am confident that should you return in the future, you will have a better experience. If you do wish to return in the future I would offer you a favourable rate and all I ask is that you contact me direct so that I can personally make the arrangements for you and ensure you have a first class stay. I offer you my sincere apologies, and although you may think my lack of response is because I don’t care, it certainly is not the case. I take all criticism personally and please be assured that my focus is always to provide a high level of service to my guests. I do hope you will give me and my team a second chance. Kind regards, John

Had a lovely stay in the Harmony Suite. Had a lovely meal in the restaurant. Breakfast was a let down. Were told the chef failed to turn up and somebody else was cooking breakfast. Very disappointing as the sausages were not cooked and were practically raw and everything else was cold. The 3 I have given for food is with regard to the breakfast.

This was our fourth stay at New Lanark Hotel and a fabulous deal on MyHotelbreak. The place is spotless, the pool/spa area very nice and the Spa Manager Vikki was very friendly and helpful. All the staff we met were very pleasant and professional, clearly an ethos filtered down from the management style. Always enjoy my time here.

Spent another 2 nights at our favourite hotel, on 28th & 29th June. We upgraded to a deluxe room. We feel it is worth the extra to get a nice big room. The room had been revamped & had a lovely new carpet. We were on the 6th floor so unfortunately our view of the river was restricted due to the hight of the window sills but otherwise we were very happy with our room. On our 1st night, dinner service was very slow. The restaurant was busy & everyone appeared to be waiting quite a while. I think there may have been a staffing problem in the kitchen, but not said. We waited over an hour for our main course which we really didn’t mind but when it came it was very disappointing. My steak was way over cooked & the thick cut chips tasted horrible. Not sure if it was the potatoes or the oil they were cooked in. Our 2nd night dinner was served much quicker & was all lovely. We both ordered eggs Benedict the next morning but there was no sauce so we had the cooked breakfast which was nice & freshly cooked. The next morning we ordered eggs benedict again but there was still no sauce! Lots of people ordered eggs benedict that morning. Why was there no sauce! 1st morning I could forgive but the 2nd morning was unforgivable. It’s not hard to make hollandaise sauce, you can even buy it in jars. If you don’t intend to have hllandaise sauce remove it from the menu. We did enjoy our stay here as usual but there were just a few niggles. I believe they are having staffing problems. We might leave it a bit longer till we return. I do hope that eventually it can return to the 1st class hotel is used to be.

Beautiful setting and loved the old mill heritage centre which the hotel is part of. Hotel itself is smart with lovely large rooms and beautiful views of the river. The spa is lovely as is the restaurant but unfortunately our meals were served a bit cold and no offer of sweets or coffee, just handed our bill. This however did not affect our delightful stay. Breakfast was excellent and all staff were delightful. Well worth a visit and great value for the money.

Came to help celebrate my sisters 40th wedding anniversary. Had a wonderful stay. Rooms are large, very clean and so comfortable. Had a lovely meal in the restaurant. Staff are all so friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Enjoyed it so much I've booked to come back for my 60th birthday in October.

Superior venue. Absolutely fabulous ambience with lovely relaxing background music. Friendly, helpful staff throughout hotel with all services (reception, room services/cleaning, catering and waitering as well as leisure services) and beautiful food with various options available. Spotlessly clean bedrooms with very comfortable surroundings and nice decor and toiletries provided. Breathtaking external environment and landscape with lovely walks. Tremendous atmosphere whilst holding the traditional aspects of the location. Great leisure pool and suite. I leave New Lanark refreshed and revitalised MY LITTLE PIECE OF SCOTTISH HEAVEN!!

Staf very helpful. Staying on a 2 night dinner b&b, would like the choice of main and dessert and not have to take the starter and main, apart from that the food was good except for breakfast, not very impressed with food that has been cooked and lying under a heat lamp or in oven.

Lovely hotel, surrounding area great and lots to see and do! Comfy bed with fantastic view, nice traditional evening meal options of good quality! Could benefit from an outside bar area in good weather but that would be my only suggestion for improvement. All the staff members we dealt with were lovely and very helpful. Good breakfast!
