Riverside Lodge Hotel, Irvine

Tbh we were very surprised when we arrived first impressions were excellent. The foyer and bar are absolutely gorgeous as is the restaurant. Then you get the room key and go though timw I understand they are being updated. Our room was spotless and bed very comfy. Overall we had a great stay. Breakfast wasn't the best. Very limited continental make your own toast which I don't like. Not the biggest breakfast but I would defo go back.

Room suffocatingly hot ! No fan ! Workmen shovelling stuff in to a skip from 7.23 in the morning , right outside our ground floor window so had to close the curtains , making it hotter still ! ! Charged a lot for dog to stay , but NOWHERE ( bar inside or out ! ) for her to be except bedroom ! ! NEVER in a ‘dog friendly’ hotel has there not been at least a bar or beer garden dog could go ! VERY DISAPPOINTED ! Shame , because staff were nice and food was good .

Staff very welcoming when booking in and asked for credit card details. When we got to our room were very pleased with size, bottle of wine and glasses waiting on table. Table booked for dinner at 6.30pm and our order was taken at 6.45pm but from then on disappointment grew! We did not receive our meal until 7.35pm which was a very long wait for 2 steaks. Food was lovely but delay spoiled our enjoyment. Sweets were fine and when we finished we asked for bill and planned to sign receipt but was told we had no credit account. Paid bill and went to reception to query why credit card details were asked for on check in if no account was set up and was told this was to pay for our accommodation etc. We were planning to pay account by debit not credit card but were not given this option and reception staff not accommodating or helpful when we stated this When we did go to bed we found the mattress was well past best and had burst springs and the only way we could lie comfortably was to place pillows over springs!! Were there for 2 nights but after the wait for dinner we decided to eat elsewhere on second night so hotel lost out on sale of at least £50. Deal was good value for money but having a long wait for food and terrible 2 nights sleep would prefer to pay more and go somewhere else. Can not reccommend this hotel.

Hotel undergoing renovation when we stayed but this did not cause any problems. It will be excellent when finished. Food good and staff very helpful. Excellent value from Myhotelbreaks.

Very disappointed booked into the middle of refurbishment no lounge no restaurant builders working every where said on the booking there was some refurbishment but would be finished by 30th June we booked this to celebrate our ruby wedding the service and bar staff at night very very helpful but the breakfast was awful poor service frozen food no choices food uncovered filthy toaster frozen coffee staff not interested we have used this hotel five times and are not happy 4 star minus

Fabulous, this was our 2nd time @ this hotel and although going through extensive upgrade is still comfortable and staff are super Great value Look forward to visiting when upgrade is complete

Beautiful bedroom but no air-conditioning. Very hot. Dinner was excellent. Had to ask for breakfast buffet to be replenished, but it was fine.

Very friendly staff, rooms clean but furniture could do with being updated. Very good value for the money we paid. Not sure about the houses being built so close to the hotel spoils the outlook.

Breakfast in the morning was an absolute nightmare. With the makeshift restaurant at the moment due to the refurbishment, there is one toaster to cover all the guests which means long queues. There is no menu so it’s take it or leave it!!

Although the hotel in currently under a refurbishment to the restaurant and bar areas it did not seem to hamper the service and efficiency of the staff. Stayed at this hotel several times now and always had a very welcoming feeling when booking in. On the downside some of the rooms are a bit far away from the main reception and not suitable for the ageing population but i'm sure if it was a problem then alternative rooms would be made available.

Enjoyed our stay at the Riverside as usual. We know that they are doing major refurbishment but will be glad to get buffet breakfast back. Staff are superb as usual. Can't do enough for you.

Been here many times, my latest visit was ok, work going on outside hotel and inside hotel, food at dinner was fine but breakfast wasn't hot at all, maybe hot plates would help, the other problem was the bottle of wine in the room, I asked when I booked for white wine but when we got to room it was rose wine and it was warm, red wine is ok at room temperature but white and rose wine should be chilled, suggestion for hotel, ice bucket with wine in please or customers could get a cold bottle at bar !

We booked a Dinner B&B with wine rate for £75. On arrival at 2.15pm we were met with "will see if your room is ready" rather than a nice greeting and the white wine that she said would be in our room wasn't there. It was sent up after I phoned done for it but it arrived warm! Did manage to get an ice bucket from them but it wasn't a good shape and didn't do much. Wouldn't order the wine package again. Was also told bluntly that it was their policy to take payment on arrival which didn't bother me but thought she could have asked nicely. Room was large and fine with view of grass and river although bathroom bit dated and shower stiff to work. Food was at dinner was good although most things had supplements attached at dinner not just the expensive things. Breakfast was nice, cooked to order and fresh fruit etc. Waiting staf nice. The hotel seemed quite busy with coach parties but they were kept seperate from the ordinary guests and the refurbishment didn't bother us. Would stay again.

Stayed for our wedding anniversary, we got upgraded to a newly refurbished suite which was lovely, I would definitely go back.

Food great Staff really lovely and nothing too much trouble Hotel rooms ....you get what you pay for and this hotel desparatley needs its refit! Tired and old rooms with one of them plagued with tiny moths.

Hotel in the process of being decorated and upgraded, this had no impact on our stay. Staff and food very good, will certainly return at some point. Martin Allison
